Georgia Tech has made the decision to part ways with head coach Damon Stoudamire. Stoudamire, who took over the program with hopes of rebuilding it into an ACC contender, struggled to generate consistent results. Despite flashes of promise and a few notable wins, the Yellow Jackets were unable to maintain momentum, and pressure mounted as losses piled up late in the season.
Athletic director Ryan Alpert released a statement thanking Stoudamire for his leadership but acknowledged the program needed a new direction. The decision came after internal evaluations of recruiting progress, player development, and overall competitiveness within the Atlantic Coast Conference. Georgia Tech administrators reportedly met with key stakeholders over the weekend before finalizing the move, signaling a desire to reset expectations and pursue a long-term turnaround.
For Georgia Tech, the coaching search now becomes the program’s most important offseason task. The Yellow Jackets are expected to look for a candidate with strong recruiting ties in the southeast and experience navigating the modern college basketball landscape, including the transfer portal and NIL era as Georgia Tech still searches for their first NCAA Tournament win since 2010.
