Former Reggie Ball recently stirred conversation The Nest ATL’s Miles Garrett by sharing his ranking of the top quarterbacks in school history. Ball’s list spotlighted some of the most accomplished signal-callers to wear the White and Gold, including Shawn Jones and Joe Hamilton, two of the most dynamic playmakers of their eras. Hamilton, the 1999 Heisman Trophy runner-up, is widely regarded as one of the program’s all-time greats, while Jones led the Yellow Jackets to a share of the 1990 national championship. Ball also gave recognition to George Godsey, who guided Tech to an ACC title in 1998, as well as dual-threat standouts Joshua Nesbitt and Justin Thomas, both of whom thrived in the program’s option-based attack.
Notably, Ball included himself among the elite company, a nod to his own impact during his tenure from 2003 to 2006. As a multi-year starter, Ball helped guide Georgia Tech to multiple bowl appearances and finished his career among the program’s statistical leaders at the time. His ranking reflects both respect for the tradition of quarterback excellence at Georgia Tech and confidence in his own contributions to the program. While debates over the “Mount Rushmore” of Yellow Jackets quarterbacks will always spark passionate discussion, Ball’s list underscores the depth of talent that has defined the position in Atlanta for decades.
