The Nest ATL’s Miles Garrett spoke with former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Michael Jenkins about the Falcons’ decision to bring Matt Ryan into the front office as their new President of Football.
Jenkins spoke with a mix of pride and optimism about the move. Having been on the receiving end of Ryan’s first NFL pass: a 62-yard touchdown against the Detroit Lions in 2008. Jenkins recalled the leadership and poise Ryan brought to the Falcons locker room from the very beginning of his career. That historic throw, which became a defining early moment in both of their careers, stood as a symbol of Ryan’s impact on the franchise’s identity and Jenkins believes those same qualities will serve him well as he transitions to a leadership role off the field.
Jenkins also stressed that Ryan’s deep understanding of the Falcons’ culture, built over more than a decade as one of the franchise’s most decorated quarterbacks, makes him uniquely positioned to shape the organization’s future. He highlighted how Ryan’s experience in the locker room, coupled with the respect he still commands around the league, could help bridge the gap between the front office and the players themselves. With Ryan now overseeing key personnel decisions and reporting directly to ownership, Jenkins suggested the move not only honors the legacy Ryan helped build but also signals a commitment to continuity, stability, and intelligent leadership as the Falcons aim to return to contention.
