There has been lots of speculation on the pending legal situation following former Falcons first round pick James Pearce Jr.
Pearce was arrested in February for hitting his, then girlfriend, Rickea Jackson’s vehicle while blocking access to the local police department. He was charged with felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, felony fleeing and eluding police, and felony resisting an officer with violence and misdemeanor stalking.
A report Tuesday morning by Andy Slater states that all those charges will be dropped if Pearce completes a pretrial intervention program administered by the state of Florida. “As for (the) rationale in offering this, the Defendant is a first-time offender with no history of violence,” said Florida state attorney Andres Perez in a statement. “Thankfully, nobody was hurt, and it appears that this incident was borne out of a mental health crisis.”
The terms of the program require Pearce to stay away from Jackson, complete therapy sessions, and stay out of trouble for six months while also submit to random drug testing.
Pearce can still face discipline from the NFL as the league is still reviewing the case under the terms of its own personal conduct policy.
