Tre Phelps delivered for the Dawgs once again.
The Georgia Bulldogs kept their College World Series hopes alive Tuesday night, defeating Texas 2-0 in a high-stakes elimination game in Omaha. Phelps drove in the first run of the game in the fifth inning with an RBI double, driving in Brennan Hudson. Rylan Lujo ultimately drove in the final insurance run in the 7th inning with a sac fly scoring Ryan Black from third.
After suffering a heartbreaking one-run loss to Oklahoma earlier in the week, Georgia responded with a poised and disciplined performance, shutting down a dangerous Longhorns lineup and delivering timely offense when it mattered most. The victory sends the Bulldogs forward in the tournament while ending Texas’ season.
Georgia’s pitching staff set the tone from the opening inning, consistently working out of trouble and limiting scoring opportunities for the Longhorns. Texas entered the game with momentum after a dominant win over Alabama, but the Bulldogs never allowed the Longhorns to find an offensive rhythm. Strong defense behind the mound helped preserve the lead, and Georgia capitalized on key moments at the plate to build enough separation in a tense postseason battle.
With the win, Georgia earns another chance to continue its remarkable run in Omaha. The Bulldogs now turn their attention back to Oklahoma, knowing they must continue winning to reach the championship series. For a program making its deepest postseason push in years, Tuesday’s victory showcased the resilience and toughness that have defined Georgia’s season. The Bulldogs remain alive on college baseball’s biggest stage and are one step closer to chasing a national title.
