The Atlanta Hawks concluded what was one of their best seasons in recent memory after finally getting past the play-in game and in to the first round of Eastern Conference playoffs.
So far in these playoffs, the Hawks have remained the only team to notch wins against the Eastern Conference Champion New York Knicks. A big reason for that were some of the moves made this season by general manager Onsi Saleh.
The Hawks seem to agree as the team has reportedly signed Saleh to a long-term contract extension while also promoting him to President of Basketball Operations.
“Onsi possesses a rare combination of valuable leadership qualities and a clear vision that will position our franchise to compete at a championship level. He is a gifted communicator and talent evaluator, widely respected by his peers within the NBA community,” said Hawks principal owner Tony Ressler. “He has already demonstrated a level of decisiveness and acumen that has changed the trajectory of our organization, and we are delighted to have him lead our basketball operations for a very long time.”
Saleh has demonstrated his basketball prowess for Atlanta the past couple seasons managing a roster pre and post Trae Young. Atlanta’s new President of Basketball Operations netting back-to-back NBA Most Improved Players in Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker in 2025 and 2026. Additionally, Saleh managed to get the team the 8th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft following a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans last year.
