University of Georgia baseball will once again host postseason baseball in Athens, and this time as one of the nation’s top overall seeds.
For the third consecutive season and the ninth time in school history, Georgia was selected as one of 16 regional host sites for the 2026 NCAA Baseball Tournament, the selection committee announced Sunday night. The Bulldogs also earned the No. 3 overall national seed in the 64-team bracket.
Under third-year head coach Wes Johnson, fourth-ranked Georgia enters the NCAA Tournament with a 46-12 overall record after winning both the SEC regular season and SEC Tournament championships.
The Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed in the Athens Regional and will open NCAA Tournament play Friday at 7 p.m. against No. 4 seed Long Island University, the NEC champion, which enters the postseason with a 30-20 record. No. 2 seed Boston College comes into the regional at 36-21, while No. 3 seed Liberty University enters postseason play with a 41-19 record.
Johnson has rapidly transformed Georgia into one of college baseball’s elite programs. He becomes the first head coach in Georgia baseball history to lead each of his first three teams to the NCAA Tournament. Georgia is also a top-eight national seed for the third consecutive season, giving the Bulldogs an opportunity to host both a regional and super regional in Athens if they advance.
Through his first three seasons, Johnson has compiled a 132-46 overall record and a 58-32 mark in SEC play, both the highest totals by a Georgia baseball coach during their first three seasons with the program.
The Bulldogs are making their 16th NCAA Regional appearance overall. Georgia advanced to a Super Regional in 2024 after winning its regional for the first time since 2008, falling one game short of the College World Series. In 2025, the Bulldogs went 1-2 in regional play. Georgia’s last appearance in the College World Series came in 2008, when the Bulldogs finished as the national runner-up.
