More good news came Tuesday morning ahead of the Atlanta Falcons OTA’s.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters in Flowery Branch that QB Michael Penix Jr. will be participating in individuals drills along with 7 on 7’s as team activities begin.

Atlanta’s quarterback is coming off an ACL tear he suffered last season and the timetable on his return has been up in the air with the coaching staff being very particular with their wording on when he will be back to full speed at practice. “He’s able to do more and more football at the direction of our medical staff,” Stefanski said. “You will see Mike out there in the individuals, he will not do team yet but that time is coming.”

The Falcons signed QB Tua Tagovailoa this off-season to compete with Penix for the starting job and provides a solid insurance option for the time being if Atlanta’s former 8th overall pick isn’t ready to go by the start of the 2026 season.

Additionally, Stefanski elaborated on rookie Cash Jones being used at wide receiver. The former Georgia Bulldog was an undrafted free agent by the Falcons but will now be working with the pass catchers in Tommy Rees’ offense.
